Baby clothes need a little extra care — both in what you buy and how you wash.
Choose the right fabric
- 100% cotton is the safest everyday choice — breathable and soft.
- Avoid rough embroidery, glitter or beads touching the skin; look for a cotton lining on festive wear.
- Check for nickel-free snaps and flat seams.
Wash before first wear
Always wash new clothes before the baby wears them to remove finishing chemicals and dust from transit.
Washing
- Use a mild, fragrance-free detergent.
- Wash in cold or lukewarm water; hot water shrinks cotton.
- Rinse twice so no detergent stays in the fabric.
- Dry in sunlight when possible — it is a natural disinfectant — but bring colours in before they fade.
Avoid
- Fabric softeners and bleach on baby clothes
- Ironing snap buttons directly (they get hot)
- Storing damp clothes — they develop mould in monsoon
Sizes
Babies outgrow clothes quickly. Buy 2–3 pieces per size rather than a large set in one size.
