Ethnic wear for children comes in many styles. Here is how to choose.
Boys
Kurta pajama — the everyday classic. Light cotton, comfortable for long functions, Eid prayers and family gatherings. Off-white and light colours match almost anything.
Pathani suit — a short-collar kurta with a salwar. Traditional, comfortable and a favourite for Eid.
Sherwani set — structured and embroidered, worn with a churidar. Reserved for weddings, receptions and formal celebrations. Best for photos, but change into cotton after the ceremony for comfort.
Girls
Ethnic suit set — kurti, bottom and dupatta. Comfortable for school functions, pooja and family visits.
Lehenga choli — flared skirt, choli and dupatta with embroidery. The wedding and Diwali favourite; look for a cotton lining so it is comfortable to wear for hours.
Kurti & palazzo — the easiest ethnic-casual option for daily wear.
Fabric by season
- Summer: pure cotton, cotton-linen
- Festive: cotton silk, chanderi, jacquard (always with lining for kids)
- Winter: heavier cotton with a sweater or jacket over the top
